May the Fourth, also known as Star Wars Day, is a perfect excuse to fire up the grill! How does the best grill manufacturer in the galaxy celebrate? By making Han Burgers, of course. Modeled after the classic “smash burger,” these patties are a little scruffy, just like our favorite nerfherder, and hold together about as well as the Millennium Falcon. From grill to plate in less than 12 parsecs—your taste buds are in for a ride!
Ingredients
-
2 lbs medium ground beef
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
6 egg or potato buns
-
¼ cup butter
-
Your favorite condiments: bacon, cheese, lettuce, onion, ketchup, mustard, etc.
Method
-
Prepare the Grill:
-
Replace the cooking grids with a Cast-Iron Plancha, or place the grill-top Plancha on the grids.
-
Preheat the grill to high heat (~500+°F) using the burners directly below the Plancha.
-
-
Form the Patties:
-
Divide the ground beef into 6 portions (~1/3 lb each).
-
Form loose balls and flatten them into thin patties. The goal is a loosely packed, thin smash burger.
-
Butter the buns on the inside.
-
-
Cook the Burgers:
-
Once the Plancha is hot, melt 1 tbsp butter, then place the burgers on it.
-
Use a spatula to smash the patties further, maximizing surface area.
-
Season with salt and pepper.
-
Cook for 3 minutes until the first side is crispy, then flip and cook another 3 minutes.
-
-
Toast the Buns:
-
Move the cooked burgers to the “off” side of the grill to keep warm.
-
Place the buttered buns on the hot Plancha and toast until golden, about 2 minutes.
-
-
Assemble the Han Burgers:
-
Dress simply with your favorite condiments.
-
Add bacon, cheese, lettuce, onion, or anything else you like.
-
Serve with Falcon Fries (aka poutine) for the full Star Wars experience.
-
Notes
-
For a little fun: adding bacon can make your burger a bit Chewie!
-
These smash-style burgers are crispy and simple, a perfect contrast to big, juicy burgers.
